Hi everyone. Jon from Bussum, NL signing on.
I was born (55 years ago) and raised in glamorous Oakland, California. My dad used to keep the fridge full of Olympia and Brown Derby. I couldn't stanfd beer when I was a kid.
At 19 I escaped to Spain, where I learned the importance of a cold bottle of San Miquel. Then I traveled up to London where I stayed for a year and got to know a whole different kind of beer.
In '76 I was back in London, staying with some guys who were really into real ale (CAMRA was just getting started) and I got the bug. We used to drive for miles to find a place with a proper hand-pumped pint.
Wew brewed a few batches at home, using a Boots Pharmacy kit. That was my last experience with brewing... until now. I found a home-brewing shop near me here in Holland and I am making my first batch, using a Black Rock beginners kit from New Zealand. As soon as I finish this message I am going to begin bottling my bitter.
I am especially intriqued by cask-conditioned ales, and I have been poking around on this forum looking at the home-made beer engines and trying to educate myself.
Now I'm off to the bottling station (my bathtub).
