Just wanted to stop in here and say hi. Just brewed my first batch of beer last night, an Irish Red Ale kit from Midwest Supplies. I've spent a lot of time reading these forums the last few days, looking forward to finally start participating on them.
 
Welcome! Hope you know what you are getting yourself into :)

Did you leave some head space in your fermenter? The one Irish red I did was the most violent fermentation I ever had... Not trying to scare you but don't let the airlock get clogged.
 
I think there was about a gallon and a half of space in the fermenter.

It's a 5 gallon batch. Should I do the secondary fermenting in a 5 gallon or 6 gallon carboy?
