I would like to say Hello to all Fellow Brewers out there. Just to let you know I am a complete green horn or n00b on brewing beer, and I have a TON of questions. . Hopefully I have found a great online resource to help me in my journey in brewing beer.

A little about myself.

I am in the I.T. industry, I live in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada

And Getting into brewing my own beer. Should be a lot of fun.

No Sense creating a new thread. I will search the forums first and see if I can find my answer. If I cannot find my answer I will come back to this thread :D

Welcome Beer Geek (from one beer geek to another). Peruse the forum, take advantage of the search function and you'll find lots of answers. Of course this forum has loads of folks who will answer questions too, eh?:cross:

OK Here is the Deal.
1) I understand the Primary, and the Secondary
2) I understand the cooking process
3) I understand the cooling process

4) I have READ the instructions

Here is where I am getting REALLY Confused.

I am thinking the answer is simple, and I think I know the answer. but I will ask first.

For Christmas (God Bless my Brother in Law)
Bought me a Beer making kit.

in it is as follows that was included

1) Primary = Plastic Pail with lid
2) Secondary = 5 Gallon Glass Carboy
3) Cork and Release? that I fill with water to keep the humidity? (THis is what I am gathering and understand
4) Hydrometer (Measure giggle juice level) Alcohol Content
5) Thermometre measure temp of beer
6) Two Strip Thermometres
7) Glass Tube and plastic Food Grade tube for syphoning
8) 3 beer kits (Victorian Bitter, Brown Ale, and a Stout)
9) Yeast
I have a few other Miscellaneous things But this is from the top of my head

The Beer Kit came with instructions.

It says that AFTER I cook the wort for about 15 - 20 minutes I then place this in the Primary and fill to 5 Gallons of water the Temp SHOULD be approx 65 - 75 F, then add your yeat and then stir well in the Primary, Seal the Lid, then let it sit. Well My Primary does not have a hole for the airlock.

So do I drill a hole in my Primary lid? or am I missing something?

My primary bucket has a hole with a grommet in it. I just plug the airlock right in. Others drill a hole and then you need a rubber stopper for your airlock.

ok I do have the rubber stopper, however I thought that this was for the carboy in the second step.

ok I think it is clear now after the one week in the primary, with my rubber stopper and airlock, I then syphon into the carboy for an additional two weeks, checking water lever in the airlock, then syphon back into my plastic pail for bottling, Bottle + Cap, then let sit for an additional 10 days, refrigerate, and enjoy. Is this correct?

Almost... The stopper IS for the carboy. what you want for the primary lid is a grommet, otherwise you will have a very big hole in your lid and must always use the stopper. The grommets are cheap, and you should be able to get then from any home brew supplier, and prob. any hardware store. If you go to the hardware store, it should be sized for your airlock.

Good Luck and happy brewing :mug:
