I just bought a Blichmann plate chiller and tried it with boiling water to test it. It worked great. I used the spigot of my brew pot to feed it. the problem is when the water drops below the spigot outlet, I still have about a gallon of water/wort left. in the past I always chilled in my brew pot and used a siphon to drain it.

Without using a pump, and using the plate chiller, does anyone have any hints as to how to get all or most of my wort chilled? I hate to leave a gallon of wort in the pot. Or is this normal for most people?

Thanks

youll either need to hook up a dip tube or just tilt your kettle. Is your outlet NPT threads on the inside? several brewing sites sell pre-made diptubes

I didn't want to tilt it. I wanted to keep the whirlpool cone intact.

what is a dip tube?

tthanks

How far below the kettle is the chiller?
And how far below the chiller is the fermenter you're filling?

Gravity should do the job if you're not fighting it...

Cheers!

moops (or is it moors?), thanks for your help.

I looked up a dip tube, and that will solve my problem.
