Currently enjoying my homebrew Oatmeal Chocolate Stout, and it tastes great. However, when I pour it it has a nice thick head but it dissipates almost immediately. What causes this and how do I rectify it in the future? Happy Brewing....

Probably soapy / dirty glasses. Keep separate beer glasses, clean them only with OxiClean Free, PBW, or even Star San.

Or even steam clean them, but don't let the dishwasher "rinse aid" touch them.

Without the knowledge of our recipe it's hard to give any useful advice, That said, I use 2 lbs. of flaked barley in my 6 gallon dry stout recipe and have great head retention.

I get better head when I dont run the glasses through the dishwasher.
