Hi everyone, I would please like some help and instructions on items I was recently given to "step up" my game from a friend. Please help me with the order and amounts I should use to brew about 2 gallons. I've only dealt with a few mr. Beer brewing. I have listed and posted a picture of items.
-sparkling amber malt extract (3lb)
-whilfloc tablets
-Amarillo pellets
-Columbus pellets
-femax yeast
-some type of grain

It looks like you have the makings for an American Amber ale. You'll need to pick up some yeast, I'm pretty sure that's a jar of yeast nutrient. I would suggest dry yeast, Nottingham would probably be easiest. You can go with something like this:

Steep the loose grains (looks like about 8oz of dark crystal malt) in 1 gallon of 150dg water for about 25 minutes. Strain out the grains.
Add enough water to bring volume to about 3 gallons. Boil. Turn off heat, add dry malt extract. Return to a boil.
Boil for 60 minutes.
After 30 minutes, add 1/4 oz Columbus.
After 45 minutes, add 1/4 oz Amarillo.
After 50 minutes, add 1/4 oz Amarillo and 1/2 Whirlfloc tablet.
At 60 minutes, add 1/2 oz Amarillo and turn off heat. Stir into a whirlpool and let cool.
Dump it all into your fermenter with enough cold water to bring your volume to about 3.5gallons.
Sprinkle the Nottingham yeast.
Make beer.
 
I have brewed an American Amber Ale a number of times. My personal preferrence for a dry yeast is SA-05.
Keep your fermentation temperatures below 64° with Nottingham. The first 48 hours are the most critical. Yeast produces heat as it works. Have your fermentor in a swamp cooler to help control temperature spikes.
 
That jar does look like it is probably yeast nutrient. Nottingham is a really clean tasting yeast if you have a way to keep the temp somewhere between 58 and 64. Higher than that and it can start throwing some esters that I don't really care for. Safale US-05 might be a better choice if you don't have great temp control yet, as it does very well in the 65-70 range.
 
Do you have a bucket or are you using the mr beer keg? I don't think that's enough malt extract for a 3.5 gallon beer.
