New ss chronical....the bottom casket caught the jacket when i put 90 elbow on. Dripping at about a drop every two mins....options?

I have yet to pitch the yeast? do i transfer back into kettle fix and then put back in? Just ignore and lose a few pints???

I would fix it. The idea that you have an opening where something might get in and infect the beer would make me want to fix it. This is probably not going to happen, but I would not take the risk. Look at it as extra airation, just sanitize the kettle well first. That is just my opinion.

yeah, that’s what i was thinking as well, so i transferred and fixed....actually think it was a defaulty gasket! Thanks for advice!

Glad you fixed it!

You may transfer wort back and forth as long and as many times as you want and not worry about oxygen uptake. Adding oxygen is actually advantageous for better yeast health and fermentations. Even within 12-18 hours after pitching yeast, in high gravity wort, as long as it is before alcohol is formed.

Just keep really good sanitation when doing so!

Thanks for info! Still a noobie, 7th brew so i’m still nervous about infections if I don’t get started in asap.

I completely washed kettle when i moved from fermenter, but didn’t sanitize? I’m guessing this ups my chances of an infection? The fermenter was obviously sanitized to begin with, but when i went back n forth, i only sprayed top of fermenter and the dome top? Should I have done more?

Your boil kettle was already well sanitized from the hour long boil. Washing and rinsing it should not add a lot of "bugs." I think you'll be OK. RDWHAHB!

Remember for next time, always sanitize any equipment that touches chilled wort or beer. It becomes 2nd nature after doing it a few times.

sorry...*starter in asap

Don’t rush to pitch your yeast. You’re better off waiting until your temps are exactly where you want them. I never get lucky enough to transfer at exactly my target pitch temp so it goes into the ferm chamber and stabilizes where I want it. Pitching 6 hours after transfer isn’t uncommon and has never presented a problem. You should also fill your fermenter with starsan and let it sit while you brew, any leaks will expose themselves.
