After making my first beer my wife now wants me to make her a honey brown. I have been checking out kits here and there to figure out what they consist of and I think I have figured out what will work but I would like some opinions from more experienced brewers. Tell me what you think.

Recipe:
6lbs Amber LME
1.5lbs 10L Crystal malt
2lbs Honey malt specialty
6oz Chocolate specialty

1.5oz Northern Brewer hops 35 min
.5oz Willamette 35 min

2lbs of honey malt is far too much. i wouldnt go over 1lb with it. id cut back on the 10L too to have 2lbs MAX combined, and probably closer to 1.5lbs. unless you already have it, id use light extract instead of amber to have more control over it since you're steeping anyway

I agree. You are going overboard with the specialty grains. I'd only use 1/2 pound honey malt and 1/2 pound crystal, plus the choc. Too much crystal makes a beer cloyingly caramel-sweet.

I would consider 1 pound of honey at flameout.

If it were me I'd do only one ounce of NB hops at 60 minutes and one ounce Wilamette at 30.

Sounds similar to my second batch (I'm up to 5 now). I used 1/2 pound of honey malt and 1/2 pound of crystal and the honey flavor is very noticeable but not overwhelming. Another thing you might consider is adding honey at flame-out or for your carbonation sugar. And if you want it sweeter use a yeast that leaves the beer sweet and not so dry.
