Geezus..... So I came home yesterday evening and found my primary(cab.sauv.with skins!) was overflowing(end of day 2) oozing from the bucket seal, sitting in a puddle, airlock full of oak dust and red scum. So I spent over an hour cleaning it up and racking into a clean bucket AND took a bit less than 1/2 gallon out to make some space(knowing I had already lost about 1/2 gallon to overflow). Everything is fine..... BUT that 1/2 gallon I took out to reserve for later... I have a giant flip top bottle. After a long evening and unexpected clean up, it was late, so I put the reserve into that giant flip top bottle. I figured I'd burp it in the morning and figure out what to do with it then. So this morning I blurp it.... sounded like a gunshot and as I tried to QUICKLY close it, it sprayed out the darkest blood coloured liquid all over the room like a lawn sprinkler. I found wine droplets 15ft away ! The biggest problem now is I have cleaned it off the ceiling.... Blotted, then cold water soaked paper towels.... but it looks horrible. Any tricks?? am I destined to paint the ceiling?? AND the biggest concern.... can it be fixed before my wife comes home?? lol

You are correct !!! I think the ceiling was still damp from the wet paper towel routine, but I took a brand new bottle of peroxide and a clean towel and mopped the ceiling with it. It is 95% gone ! A helluva difference !! Now I'm going to treat my shirt and pants haha ! thanks for the timely response !!

My advice is kiss her at the door. Tell her you can fix it. That you were trying to make her the perfect wine. And go get some Killz. That $hit covers anything.

P.S. next time make a smaller batch or use a bigger bucket. And if you want to reserve a portion that is still fermenting, use a bottle that can take an airlock.
They make bungs all the way down to wine bottle size. I have one for a large Jack Daniels bottle for my " overflow" at racking.
