Hey guys,

I've decided that I'm going to venture away from a kit for the first time and try and make my own all Citra IPA. I've decided that I'm going to use 7# of extra light DME. I'm going to do the following hop schedule:

1oz Citra at 60 min
1oz Citra at 15 min
1oz Citra at 10 min
1oz Citra at 5 min
1oz Citra at FO
2-3oz Dry Hop

The trouble I'm running into is what grains to steep with this. I have looked around at different recipes and all of them have something a little different. Some call for Crystal Malt 10L, some call for a mix of 10L and 40L, some call for Carapils, etc.

I figured I would turn to this communities expertise and see if I could get some solid answers. Thanks in advance for any help you could give me!

I just finished off a batch a Citra APA with 5% Crystal 40L. It was good but dry and without much malt complexity. 5-10% Caravienna would be nice too. I normally use crystal 60l but wanted a lighter color. The darker the crystal the more intense the flavor it contributes. It depends on what you want to accomplish.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm basically trying to accomplish a hop bomb for the summer that is pretty drinkable and not to crazy in ABV. Hoping to stay around 6%.
