Hello all,
I've made starters for my last 6 or 7 batches, but for the first time I have made some extra for use in my next batch. I made a 1.6 L starter from a smack pack, pitched 1 L into my stout, and put the rest in the fridge in a mason jar. It looks like it settled down to about 50mL worth of yeast.
My next batch will be a 3.25 gallon, 1.073 IPA requiring 163 million cells. MrMalty says this is about 80 mL of yeast (using default settings), or that I need a 1L starter. Can I just decant what I've saved and make a 1L starter? This seems small to me for a 1.073 beer. Maybe it's just because it's a small batch, or am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks,
John
