Hey,

My hydrometer recently broke and my new one hasn't arrived. I brewed with a friend four weeks ago today--the Hoegaarden Belgian Wit clone from Beer Captured. We had to move it up from his basement to bottle, which stirred the carboy slightly. The activity looked like it wasn't done fermenting, but has started to slow. Anybody who know this style or this particular brew...HELP! It's been fermenting for four weeks today...is it ready to bottle?

Life sucks without a hydrometer.

If you're not sure it's done, then don't take any chances with making bottle bombs.
How often is your air lock bubbling?

I don't use a thermometer. You're not relying on your senses and that's why you feel you need it....remember the end of Star Wars Episode 4? Use the Force, Luke.

Look, if it's bubbling, it's fermenting. If it isn't it's done. You REALLY don't need a hydrometer to tell you these things.

So, if it's still bubbling, then WAIT. This really isn't rocket science (unlike the end of Episode 4). Patience, young Skywalker.

Cheers :D

Here's a tip: I got my spare hydrometer (When mine broke too) at a local pet store. People that keep tropical saltwater fish use them too. They read the same, but the scale doesn't go as high (1.060 or something like that).

Janxy revealed that he's an uber geek for the Star Wars references, but I totally agree with him. And by the way . . .I am you father.
