Hey guys,

After being a craft beer enthusiast the last 3 years, I've decided to take the plunge on homebrewing. I've done 3 batches so far with extracts. I want to get better at making extracts before trying all-grain. So far, I really enjoy this forum for the great advice and am learning so much!

Thanks guys :)

Welcome to the hobby and to HBT! Like you and John, I also started with extract. I think I brewed for a couple of years with extract before moving to all-grain. Plus, I still use extract on really big beers - I don't want to use multiple mash tuns and 4 hour boils LOL. And you can make great beers with extract. An Imperial Stout that I brewed with extract won a gold medal at a competition a little more than a year ago.

Welcome from Arkansas, the homebrewing rabbit hole is deep. Extract is a great way to get into the hobby, and a good way to save time on brew day. I brewed some extracts a couple years ago because I had a newborn and was always short on time.

Welcome aboard!
I used the same progression. Study and practice will yield great beer. Keep us posted on your brewing.

Will do! I've already been getting help about fermentation and using hops. I made the mistake of bittering with cryo hops and on my next batch I plan to use pellets. Basically, I used a bag of hops on a 3 gallon recipe haha!

I've met people who seem to put down extracts but I think it's a great way to start, too. It's really made the learning curve a heck of a lot easier. Plus, I'm in the Middle East so it's harder to get the ingredients here making extract a more economical choice.

Winning a gold medal? That's amazing! It's even more motivation for me to learn extract brewing.

It is and I'm getting such great advice on here in the few posts I have made so far.

Welcome to the group, from Minnesota!

Extract brewing is a great place to start, and many people continue to brew extract. You can make great beer with it. Learn the basics--ingredient choices, fermentation temps, sanitation, etc. If and when you decide to make the jump to all-grain, you'll have the fundamentals down. It's not that big of a jump. Any questions, post 'em here and you'll get lots of help.

Welcome from Missouri. Took basically the same path. Started with one gallon extract, quickly moved up to five gallon extract and now doing five gallon BIAB batches. This is the place to be if you want to browse threads and find an answer, or post a question. You'll get plenty of info in response. Keep us posted on your progress. Cheers!:D
