Hi All,

Lurked for a couple of days, but thought I'd sign up and join in. Looks like a great forum! Just starting to read about brewing before I start - which will hopefully be next weekend. On my list of things to brew are:

Alcoholic ginger beer with plum - sounds good for seasonal drinking!
Cherry and apple cider - it's got to be better than the commercial post-mixed stuff...
Mead, mead and more mead - with a variety of fruit and spices!

My reasons for getting into brewing are varied...

Firstly, I love creating stuff. I like making new dishes in the kitchen, and brewing seems like a logical extension of that.

Secondly, I have a real hankering for some alcoholic beverages that are just hard to get hold of, at least in the UK. No one seems to make a good alcoholic ginger beer! And there are some good ciders, but a lot of poor ones too - and the fruit ciders tend to be a blend of cider and fruit juice, rather than fruit fermented as part of the cider making process.

Thirdly, it looks like fun - I've always been one for experimenting!

Thanks for making such a great forum - I look forward to starting my brewing career and talking to you guys!

Welcome to the forum, Math! There is a great knowledge-base here and an increasing amount of UK brewers. (Hmm... British invasion?:))

Thanks Menschmachine...

Maybe it's the credit crunch here - buying alcohol is just too expensive ;)

Looking forward to getting more involved, and sharing tips and recipes!

Hey Math.

Welocme.
My top tip.

Try a few standard beers first before getting experimental.
Lots of reasons to do this.

There is another active Sheffield member. Danek.

Sweet, thanks orfy.

Think I'm going to be trying more country wines, ciders and meads than beer, but once I've got the hang of it, I might try some beers too!
