Hey, I'm Mitch. I've just started my first brew, lager brew.
I was a complete novice a few weeks ago, with no knowledge of brewing at all. Between then and now I have researched and studied a lot of info about brewing. I now consider myself a pro on the topic.......
Just kidding, obviously.
I bought all of my equipment and the lager kit from Wilkinsons for roughly £35, which I think was pretty cheap.
Good to finally register after nearly two weeks of vigorous scanning of posts on this site.

I actually stopped drinking alcohol completely for several months mainly because of the cost. I figured that it would be financially better, and since I have been spending more time at home and becoming more domesticated, I wanted to get another 'project' on the go.
I am brewing a cheap lager kit from my local Wilkinsons shop/store. It is described as a Mexican-style cerveza. The liquid malt and yeast came with the kit and I also purchased 1k of brewing sugar and 500g of dme.

Impressive how quick you went from not drinking to buying your first kit! It took me about a year.. haha Is that kit all-grain? partial mash?

I won't lie, my thirst for a decent pint has been getting bigger and bigger. With the festive season just around the corner, can't be a bad time to start. With the kit, I just had to warm the can then pour the malt. Then added the sugar, dme, then yeast. All done in the right stages and temps etc.

Welcome to the group, and the hobby, from Colorado :mug:

One of my "bucket list" goals is a trip to England, to discover the great old pubs there.

Thanks. My local pub has it's own mini brewery 'Chalk Hill Brewery'. It's quite famous around Norwich. It's a real shame that I'm more of a lager drinker to be honest because their real ales come at a much more affordable price.
Anyway, I'm brewing the wilkinsons cerveza, it says to primary ferment between 18-20c (64-68f) for 4-6 days, so I have mine on 19c, but I am gonna go for 10 days. Will then batch prime with some dme (roughly 180g) and bottle, leave for 4 days at 19c then bottle and condition in a really cold fridge for 2 weeks. Does this sound about right?
