My name is Mark, and I am a small time home brewer here in North Platte, NE. I dabbled in beer about 12-15 years ago, ending up spoiling a few batches (mostly due to large groups of buddies "helping", and the amount of beer being consumed while brewing being, well, too much), and decided to focus on wine, largely due to the "boring" nature of it (at least that's what my "helper" friends said - my wife sure didn't complain with each batch!). A friend out here was chatting a bunch about some terrible one-gallon jug batches of beer he had unsuccessfully attempted (with balloon airlocks), so we teamed up and I dusted off the beer tools I had and we started brewing. He has been so excited that I think we have already brewed 5 batches so far this year (English Pale Ale, IPA, Belgian wheat, Imperial stout, and a Scottish Red). They have all turned out great, so I would say I am definitely back in business. It's amazing what a little less consumption during brewing does to the final results...
I found the board while researching online, and have been delighted with the wealth of information all of you provide to your fellow brewers - thanks much for all of your tips, tricks, and ideas. I got a free fridge from a friend/neighbor recently, so we may even turn that into a kegerator (finding 200+ bottles in five weeks has been a bit of a challenge - everyone here gladly offers up their empty Bud Light bottles!). So, thanks again, and I look forward to many good pints in the near future.
