Hi everyone,

It's great to be a member of Homebrewtalk.com. I think I just found my new hobby! Anyways, I just started brewing beer last night, and I started with a Mr. Beer West Coast Pale Ale. It's fermenting now and hopefully everything goes well. If anyone could help me, I was wondering where I could find a good hydrometer. I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff yet but I hope to learn a lot in the near future. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks to all!

Not sure where you are in RI, but there is a LHBS in Woonsocket. I have tried getting there a couple of times, but both times I went they were closed.

I am also from RI, and I just started (last night) drinking my first batch. Brewed it on Nov 10. Welcome to the addiction.

I'm from Cranston. That's cool I've been a member for about an hr and someone already responded that's from the same state as me haha. I can't wait for my first batch to be ready to drink. Thanks for the advice on the store I appreciate it.

Welcome. Here's the store: http://blackstonevalleybrewing.com/ It's by far the best HBS in the area and maybe 20 minutes away. When you're there take a look at basic brewing kits and recipes which will be a great leap forward from Mr. Beer. :mug:

awesome, thanks for the help guys. that's great to see some ri'ers on here. i'll check this place out soon. i went to lowes yesterday and picked up a valve for 5 bucks since the tap mr. beer provided is pretty crappy.

Welcome fellow Brewers. Warwick guy here. Doing AG on my last 6 batches. Any one know the best place to buy bulk base grains locally. My purchases from Brewmasters have had a much better crush than my LHBS and I don't have to drive anywhere to pick up ingredients. I would prefer to buy locally. Don't like to bash anyplace on forums so I would rather not name the shop. PM me if needed.
Thanks

Welcome, Rhode Island!

I, too first brewed in a Mr. Beer. Then, six days after I got that batch going, I brewed a 5-gallon batch from scratch. The addiction grows quickly! Since April, I've brewed... 24 batches, or 125 gallons!

hey guys, one question if you would be able to help me out. i'm about to bottle my first batch and was wondering what your preferences were for cleaners/sanitizers? i figured i'd ask now since i have to go to my lhbs in a couple of days to get a bottle capper. any help would be great.

thanks

Most of us use either Star-San or Iodophor. Either one you can pick up at the LHBS.
