Kind of new to brewing here. My brother and I use to brew together, he knew the process and I helped with grunt work. He doesn't have time now so I went out and got my own equipment and brew kit. I like the dark beers the best and am doing a Russian Imperial Stout first. I am going to clean and sanitize the gear here in a bit and then get started. I read the advice column for newbies and was able to glean some wisdom from it.

Wish me luck!!

Welcome :mug:
I too like Imperial Stouts.
Strange choice for a first beer though...you do realize that it will have to age quite a while before it is in prime drinking condition, I age mine for about 6 months after they are bottled and it takes about 2-3 months to get to that point.
Most beginning brewers are very impatient about "tasting" their first few brews and drink them before their time.
I would suggest doing a couple of "regular" stouts to "cure" this. :)

Not a strange choice for a first time brewer at all. I know nothing about how long it takes one style over another and made my choice by what I like to drink. Thanks for the heads up!

I've got the water heating now and the grains in the water. How long do you think it will have to stay in the primary fermenter?
