Greetings from Harrington Park!! I'm new to the forum and new to home brewing as well. Thoroughly enjoy beer and figured I would take a shot at brewing my own. I honestly have no idea what I am doing but the more I read the more I learn and every bit of it fascinates me and makes me want to know more.
I'm looking to start strictly with small batches to see if I can get the hang of this. I made my first batch the other night, a kit from Northern Brewer, the Caribou Slobber Brown Ale. It seemed pretty straightforward and I think I did everything right. Fermentation started pretty quickly and it was quite a show. I went away for the weekend and when I came back Monday the show had slowed down tremendously, there was some beer in the airlock and a layer of of yeast was covering the top of the jug. I assumed (and still kind of a bit) I ruined it somehow but after reading a lot on here it seems most thoughts of the beer being ruined are met with "just leave it alone and it will be fine". So that's what I am going to do. Live and learn regardless but I have attempted to brew one simple batch of beer and I loved the whole process. Can't wait to try the next one which I plan on attempting in a few days.
That's all on my end. Happy to be here. Looking forward to learning more and more. Cheers!!
