Came across the site the other day. I was a homebrewer for several years, got out of it, and now want to get back to brewing.

I live in the Raleigh area of NC. I hope to find that there are a lot of brewers in the area.

Cheers

There just happens to be a lot of brewers in your area. Search the forum for GRABASS and you'll see.

BTW welcome to the forum, there are a lot of helpful individuals here (even ones that aren't from NC).:D

Welcome! yeah, watch out for those GRABASS guys. They are sketchy. :D

Hey, welcome aboard! So, tell us a little about yourself. What are you brewing/going to brew? What are your favorite styles?

Best,

Thank you for the friendly welcome. I will keep the term "grabass" in the back of my mind, thanks for the warnings, lol.

I have an Apex address, live on skirts of Cary. Close enough to the "toxic triangle" that we would have had to exit the other day if not for the wind blowing the other way.

I have not, ashamed to say, brewed in several years. I got all the equipment, just need to get to a shop and pick up the ingredients. I actually have a lot of spare pieces, I used to own a homebrew shop in Ohio. When I sold out I kept a lot of stuff. I have several boxes in the garage.

BTW, I have heard of two brew shops, one in north Raleigh. and one in Durham. are there others? Who has the best stop in and get all you need stock?

I like darker ales for the most part, but have brewed many styles. I do all grains and partial mashes for the most part. I also dabble in winemaking. I am looking forward to starting a batch or two.

Sounds like you are VERY close to where I live. I'm damn close to the intersection of Kildaire and Ten-Ten. BOSTONBREWIN is a few miles up Holly Springs from me.

Go for the one in Raleigh. American Brewmaster. Good guys there, and they'll have all you need.

walker-san,

I am close to Kildaire/tenten too.

Born in Columbus, raised outside of Lancaster. My shop was in Lancaster.

Where in OH are you from? A Bengals fan I guess? Browns here.

Hi Nutbrown, why don't you come by and have a few homebrews with us tonight? I'm up in the Holly Springs Rd.-Cary Pkwy. neck of the woods. We're having a GRABASS membership drive. No dues, no rules (except DUI), just a fun group of guys.
Jeff

I'm from a little town that I guarantee you never heard of, but it's about midway between Lima, OH and Ft. Wayne, IN along US-30. Spent my late teens/early 20's in Cincinnati.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Is that anywhere near Ohio City?

Boston, thanks for the invite. I will not be able to make it tonite, got to unpack my homebrew stuff and inventory my equipment. Not sure where my brew pot is??? Gotta watch the Mets tonite too.

I went up to the homebrew store in Raleigh today, picked up ingredients for a batch of ale.

When does Grabass have meetings, on a regular schedule?

Walker, Van Wert? , or as my brewbuddy in Ohio used to say Van Wort, he was from there.

Hope to meet up with you guys soon

Damn! I'm actually from Ohio City (about 900 people) and about 8 miles S of Van Wert, but I went to school and spent every waking minute in Van Wert.

Crazy. What's yer buddy's name?

Sidenote related to beer and the place I grew up:
The City was SUPPOSED to be called Van Wort. It was named so to honor some dude, but... when "wort" is pronounced in the way we brewers say it, it sounds like "wert", and that was the spelling they used. So, the place I grew up has a name that means "from wort". What comes "from wort"? BEER!
