I just found this forum today while I was bored at work. Nice site - I hope to be able to contribute when I can, although my knowledge base is still growing. I'm still new to this stuff.

There's a vendor that has a Brew on Premises setup that I've produced a couple of batches at. I made my first 5 gallon batch of IPA with them back in the fall, and have finally finished drinking it.

Question - I've saved all of my bottles next to a bunch of other non-homebrew commercial bottles in my basement. Some of the commercial bottles were not washed, and just sat next to the old (washed) homebrew bottles. My fear is that some of the funk from the commercial bottles may have become airborne and gotten into my homebrew bottles. Should I toss the homebrew bottles and get new ones, or how should I sanitize them with peace of mind for future use?

Thanks, its good to be here!

The homebrew bottles are fine. A number of us have gone dumpster diving for bottles, which has a lot more funk than your commerical bottles. There are may great sanitizers... StarSan, One Step, or normal bleach would all work. Check out the sanitation section on this forum.

Thanks - I'll do just that. No need to waste good bottles.

Welcome Simcoe,

I'm in Maryland also and Flying Barrel is my local homebrew store. Welcome to the forums, it's a great place for people obsessed with this hobby.

Yeah that place really is great. With Brewer's Alley and an Indian restaurant around the corner, its hard to beat. :D
