Hello everyone. I am a first time home brewer and had a quick question. My wife bought me the essential starter kit from Northern Brewer for Christmas and I am pretty excited about starting my first batch. My question is do you have to use a stainless steel pot when boiling wort and if you don't will it effect the beer overall?

Nope...a canning pot from WalMart will do the job as well..that's how I started..then I moved on to a seven gallon aluminum kettle..then to a couple of converted kegs.
Also come by a CASK meeting sometime...you can find out a ton more about brewing from the guys, and ladies in the club..plus we drink beer...http://thecask.org/
Also Walter at Just Brew It on Rosselle St, and Matthew at the Beaches location are good people to mine for information

Sweet, thanks! This is the pot I'm using for now

Fecpo,

Hello from Palm Coast! Where are you buying your supplies? I made the trip to "Just Brew It" in your neck of the woods and it seems like a pretty good place. I also got a home brewery kit for Christmas from my wifey too... except mine is from Williams. What's gonna be your fIrst brew? I did my first today... williams triple hoppEd ale. Good luck and maybe one day we can meet up and have a few home brews!

Everything in my kit came from northern brewer, including the 2 recipes she ordered. The first one I'm going to do is a 1 gal batch, White House honey ale.

2nd is a 5 gal recipe called Caribou Slobber brown. Both seem to get pretty good reviews. I'm gonna start the first batch tomorrow!

Well. Very first brew day is complete. Pretty excited to see how this turns out!

I bought an aluminum pot from Amazon that I'm pretty happy with. My wife bought me the same kit last Christmas and it has been a fun year. Good luck with your new hobby.:mug:

Hello from the Suncoast! I use an aluminum kettle for my boils and a SS one for my sparge water.

Hey, jax brewer here... Let me know if you need help with anything.. I am new to this but I have done a buttload of research.
