Hi everyone! I'm a brand spanking new forum presence but the idea of getting help and sharing ideas sounds great to me..

I've been using Brewers Best kits thus far but would like to get out of the Partial boiling i've been doing. I was wondering if a 7 gallon boil pot would be big enough to let me avoid adding tapwater after my boil?? I've been using a 5 gal. and starting with around 3 gallons of water. If a 7 gallon b.p. is enough, how do i avoid boil-over since the inital steeping volume will probably be around 6 gallons ( to yield 5 gallons)?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!:drunk:

Welcome Tennessee. Most people end up going 8-10 gallon (preferably 10). That way you're not filling a pot to the brim, and if you ever go all grain, you won't have to buy another pot. I also boil off almost 2 gallons an hour, so my pre-boil is close to 8 gallons.

Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for a bigger pot. A local brewer here told me there was virtually no difference between steel and aluminum pots so i'll probably go that route.
