Long-time drinker, first-time brewer. Threw my first batch in the fermenter tonight, and I'm not sure how it will turn out. But it better be ready for Opening Day.

I'm a writer by day, father by night and beer drinker in-between.

Congrats on getting started!

I assume by opening day you mean MLB opening day, March 31st? What is your fermentation schedule? What style is it? I've turned around a wheat beer in a little less than a month from grain to glass, but that was kegged and force-carbed. I recommend that you keep your beer in the fermenter (either primary only or a primary/secondary combination) for 2-3 weeks (or more), and then in bottles at ~70F for at least two weeks... three would be better. Of course I'm assuming you're bottling, not kegging...

It's a pale ale that calls for 7 days in primary, 7 in secondary and 14 in bottles. Hopefully, that's pretty close to April 1, my team's opening day.
