For some time I've been searching for a recipe of an apple beer - but nothing useful turned up in the net when using the german search terms. - A simple switch of the language and everything changed...

Just transferring the AG-version on page 46 of Brandon O's Graff recipe to metric units, adopting the ingredients slightly and I got finally what I was searching for some time. :)

Eventually I registered with homebrewtalk. I'm brewing now for almost 1 year.

Where does my username com from?
"jm" are my initials and "santa" refers to my birthday

hope this recipe works out for you. give an update on how it turns out. my mother in law is asking for an apfel bier and i would be interested in knowing if it turned out to your liking. Where is Juelich in relation to say Frankfurt/Giessen? I will be hopefully moving there next summer.

Welcome to HBT! It's great to have german brewers here. Germany, the Eden of brewing. Excellent.

BTW, I'm sure you've wondered how many other German brewers are on this site. Look below at the "Similar Threads". (many of them are probably US military stationed over there though)

@all: Thanks for the warm welcome!

@Germelli1: The Reinheitsgebot - well - really an interesting story. Among some German brewers is a joke about it. According to it only water malt and hops is allowed - and the yeast? Just wait some time and call it "belgian style" ;)

BTW, the Reinheitsgebot was replaced by the less funny "Vorläufiges Deutsches Biergesetz" (Provisional German Beer-law) of 1993.

@JonK331: Let me see what I can do about your question, but as I'm aware in the recipe database of this forum are already quite a lot german beer styles. If you can get hold on the "The Ultimate Almanac of World Beer Recipes" you are lucky. In Germany the Barth-Haas-Group is giving it away for free to home brewers, otherwise it comes to about 130 USD e.g. from Weyermann or ebay.

@beerloaf: I prefer to drink it. :tank:

Sorry for double-posting - was not aware I had to wait for moderation.
the first try is at his thread

Jülich is about [ame="http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=J%C3%BClich,+Germany&daddr=Gie%C3%9Fen,+Germany&hl=de&ie=UTF8&ll=50.833698,7.294922&spn=2.549974,4.932861&sll=50.77513,7.515895&sspn=1.276582,2.466431&geocode=FS_-CAMdbRBhACmjimGpVVm_RzH5qNUeav_vPg%3BFcnYAwMdbWmEACl9I0sA5Fi8RzGQpLApUEMiBA&mra=ls&z=8"]220 km / 135 miles by car west of Gießen[/ame], next bigger City is Aachen, about 20 miles from the Netherlands and Belgium - or should I say close to beer drinkers heaven on earth? Just 15 miles to the "Bier und Weinbrandecke"

Among the scientific society Jülich is well known for its research center.

Prost!

I spend some time in that corner of Germany every so often, I'd love to check out the German Homebrew scene sometime.

Hello, 10 years in Germany and I married a Berliner, we met in Nuernberg. I got into homebrewing because I got so used to drinking German beer, when we moved to U.S. I realized that I cannot stand the taste of American large commercial beers. Some of my favorites were Krombacher, Paulaner, Tucher and Bitburger. Man do I miss them. I sure do miss Germany. Prost!

I'm missing Berlin - that's where I'm from!
From the nationwide available commercial beers I prefer Flensburger & Jever.
Usually I try to get the local beers - except in Cologne (Kölsch) and Düsseldorf (Alt). In summertime when visiting Berlin, nothing comes above Berliner Weisse! My favorite Hefeweizen are Schöfferhofer and Schneider Weiße.

Prost!
