Hey there! My name is Ian, I just got into brewing here in the West Loop. I have lurked around here for while picking up tips. I have an Amber Ale sitting in the fermenter right now, with equipment and ingredients from Midwest. Already thinking ahead, probably a coffee stout up next, and then perhaps a fruity wheat for the nicer weather.

Any suggestions or tips are always welcome!

Lot's of Chicago guys around here. I'm in Naperville. Welcome

I enjoy your neighborhood! I'm in Oak Lawn. You have a very good (imho) homebrew store 100 blocks south of you at 101st and Western - BevArt.

Welcome!

I'm a Chicago guy myself. Wicker Park area. You are entering the craft at a time when the new Brew and Grow is opening... haven't been there, but let's hope for good things.

Thanks everyone!

I need to head down to BevArt sometime when I get a chance, I hear good things about it. Brew and Grow sounds cool too.

Hello from the far, FAR, F-A-R northwestern suburbs! In you are brewing Midwest's Autumn Amber Ale...good on ya! It is a wonderful brew...and was my very first, also.

Ian...

I really enjoy the Amber Ale with a good meal that includes beef. It also goes well with other foods. Last night we had a ground beef/venison casserole that was so good, I had TWO Ambers! I know you will enjoy drinking the fruit of your labors!

My second brew was also from Midwest, and was their Liberty Cream Ale. That is just downright YUMMY all by itself! You may want to try it out!

Welcome to HBT. Randy Mosher, author of the very interesting books, Tasting Beer, and Radical Brewing, lives in the Chicago area. If you can manage to find him at a beer event, be sure to stop and see him. He's very cool and when I saw him he had brought many samples of ingredients that could go in beer. I had no idea there were so many different types of coriander!
