Hey everyone, I've been lurking this forum four about the last 3 weeks, since I started my first beer, and thought it was about time I get a little more involved.

I'm not the most interesting person so maybe I'll just tell you about my first brew. It's a hefeweizen kit from my LHBS that used 7.5# Wheat malt syrup, 8 oz of Carastan 15L grain, 1.5 oz Hallertaur hops for bittering, and .5 oz for aroma. I used a dry yeast, can't remember the strain, and made 5 gallons out of it.

Brew day went ok, I pitched the yeast somewhat warm and forgot to try to omit all the crap that was in the bottom of the wort. Rapid fermentation was happening by the end of the night and was damn near finished in just a few days, i let it sit in primary for just over a week, i think it was 10 days, then racked to a secondary and let that sit for a coupled days to get some of the hops and crap out it (i know hefes aren't supposed to clear up a whole lot).

I bottled with a gravity of about 1.014 (I know I rushed into bottling probably but it was my first and I was of course impatient, plus it's a hefe so I didn't think letting it age much more would really be that necessary).

The day after I bottled I went out of town and came back yesterday, a week later. Again, being impatient I put a couple in the fridge and gave one a try.

I am happy to say that my first batch is ok at worst and good at best. I know it's not fantastic, and i know i probably should wait more to drink more (which i will do) but it's still pretty cool to drink a bottle of a decent beer I made myself (and by decent, i mean better than BMC, haha).

Anyways, I'm pretty well hooked to the hobby I think, which is good because I'm studying to be a winemaker (guess I'll have to work on the patience thing for that, eh?).

A general thanks goes out to all of the regulars for building up such a bunch of info and knowledge, and for regularly reminding people to RDWDAHB. ;)

Welcome to Homebrewtalk.

A first batch that is OK is good enough. You've probably learned a few things doing it and by spending time here are reading the countless posts you will learn much more that you can carry forward into your future batches.
