I am a newbie and I got the brilliant idea to bottle my beer in amber bottles (thats the smart part) and my cider in green glass. Well, the local bar had an ample supply of Heine and Pllsner Urquell bottles ripe for the taking, washing, and refilling.

I only had about ten georgeous, shiny, green bottles filled with my luscious cider and I decided that I would cap them before filling the rest.

Bottom line...the Red Baron capper doesn't seem to like Heinie and P.U. bottles even with the plates set at 26 or 29. There is not enough neck! European SOBS...JK!! F--me! Silly!

Luckily I had a couple clean champagne bottles and enough 12 0z. brownies to get the job done.

Newbies!!! Avoid the GREEN!!!
 
I have a lot of green bottles that cap just fine. But Heineken bottles are to thin. I've never even tried to cap one. I'm afraid they will explode when you swing the capper. Now, Becks bottles....work like a charm.
 
I was afraid that I was going to have an explosion of green glass in the kitchen, my parents kitchen that is. I brew at their house, not mine! Luckily I had the good 'ol common sense to dump those bottles into the recycler and move on.

Trouble is...in this neck of the woods, not a lot of Beck's is consumed. In green I see mostly Heine, Urquell and other stuff that probably won't work. My friend who is a winemaker just gave me a dozen clear eazy capper bottles with the orange gasket. They are 750ml and perfect for cider. He uses them to sell his house Chardonnay and Rose. $14 a bottle, then when you bring it back for a refill it is only $9. Its a good deal considering the quality of the wine.

He told me that he ordered somewhere around 100 to 120 cases of those bottles and only paid about a buck or so per bottle.
 
Another thing...

My cider tastes great and I have been hung up on the presentation, ie green glass. It stands on its own, even if it is bottled in a cleaned Stone IPA bottle. (Screen printed bottle for those who don't know Stone)

I will post my technique and recipe for the cider in the appropriate place once I perfect my flavored variations which will be ginger-meyer lemon apple cider and black cherry cider. It is semi-sweet, 5.25% ABV and goes down like water. It can be still or bubbly! Tastes fruity, clean, no off flavors, perfectly clear, no added chemicals! Super easy!

Green glass would be nice!
