Let me start by saying I know absolutely nothing about how electricity and grounding works.

That said, I'm going to try building a heatstick as defined here and I have a few questions that I can't really seem to find anywhere else.

How exactly does screwing in a bolt to the metal piping and then attaching the grounding cable ground the heatstick?

How do you attach these cables to the outlet/grounding screw? Do you just tie them on there and use epoxy to keep them there, or do you have to solder them on?

Can you throw some epoxy all over the grounding screw on the outside or does that defeat the point of the grounding?

The heater element is grounded in a water heater to the tankbody through the attaching threads. Attaching the ground wire to the tube will ground the element when the ring attaches to the tube.

Move the ground screw to the top of the tube near the handle, less chance of a leak there and will not effect the connection.

wrap the wire around the screw clockwise and tighten down the nut and washer, or use a crimp on eyelet (without the plastic piece) to make the connections.
