Need suggestions for the best fit for my HERMS. I am using 120V and a 20AMP breaker and would like to get the most out of it. I will be simply heating/maintaining water temperature for the HERMS and sparge.

Suggestions and links would be great.

Thank you

Does anyone know of someone who sells a all in one kit for installing a heating element in my brew pot? I've read quite a few articles on this site and I really don't like the idea of using RTV to seal my element or using plastic pipe on the outside.

110 or 220

EbrewSupply ells them, High Gravity sells them The Electric Brewery selld them....and a few other places...

You should look into a greenlee punch and do it your self, cheaper in the long run, and you get a new tool...

He has.

No need to go any further with this. It is not what the thread is about.

Thx

Tim

How do you know? He hasn't said so in this thread.

This thread is about what or who to buy from. I'm just trying to help a fellow brewer make an informed decision by making sure he knows who he's buying from. What's wrong with that?

Because, we talked in PM.

But if you the thread I started, you will see how fat it can go downhill and get off topic.

I did check kegkits out and I also read the long thread about Hargrove and kegkits. From what I read he has hurt a lot of people. But I see the other side in the thread and I failed in the fast food business years ago. When I failed 7 employees did not get their last 2 weeks pay and I'm sure they still hate me today, 30 years later.

Anyways, I haven't made up my mind and I'm going to keep looking around. I did find the step bit I used last time.

That's fine. I just wanted to make sure you knew of the issues before deciding.

For a pre-made kit I'd agree with MX1 about the ebrewsupply and electricbrewery kits. Those look like solid choices.

The issue I have with the high gravity kit is that it appears that the element connections are protected with nothing more than heat shrink tubing.

If you're still open to the DIY route, there's a great thread here with a lot of good ways to go about it.

In any case, best of luck.

OK, back to heating element coices. I can buy the CAMCO LWD fold back style stainless steel heating element at my local Home Depot for $17.98 plus 8% tax, or I can but the CAMCO ripple style element from Amazon for $22.63 plus $7.80 shipping.

The Home Depot element is $19.42 total and the Amazon element is $30.43 total. Is the ripple element really worth $11.00 more?

I assume you are taking about a 240v element?

I plan on using the Home Depot ones, as long as they are ULWD. Not sure the design chages anything but surface area.

IIRC elements are High WD, Low WD, or Ultra Low WD, I will use the ULWD ones, just because that is what I want.

Here is the one I used for my kettle. Best money can buy at that wattage .

I think I'm going with the Rheem 2000w for $21. Seems like the best option for the power and price.

Nice looking element - too bad I already bought a CAMCO from the local Home Depot store.
