Heat a starter with something other than the stove?

I'm starting to use a 5000 mL Erlenmeyer to make starters, and I want to use something other than the stovetop to do the boil. Any recommendations?

I've used a microwave in the past but not for 5L

I use it in the garage. It works pretty well. The only complaint is the storage case it came in is falling apart. I bought a 12 pack of the fuel and I have at least 6 left after 3+ years.

I used to use those at work years ago... the fuel does last a long time,

I have a cheapy hotplate I picked up at a junkstore for a few bucks... havent used it yet myself...
