I had the following mead one gallon batch started (no heat method):
3lbs Orange Blossom Honey
nutrient/energizer stepped additions
Lavin 71B-1122 dry packet (rehydrated with goFerm)
Starting gravity 1.019
3 weeks in totally clear and a gravity of 0.995
2 weeks later racked onto the following spices directly (without any pre-boil):
Twelve whole cardamom pods
One large split vanilla bean
One about six inch cinnamon stick (these had been sitting around in a twisty tied bag for about a year maybe?)
Two small cloves
In a day it went from being totally crystal clear to very hazy and with a fair amount of some almost "fluffy" something at the bottom of the one gallon glass jug.
I racked it today onto 1/2 tsp sorbate and 1 crushed camden tablet to stabilize before I back sweeten.
Has this happened to anyone? Thoughts?
