I have been trying to get my hands on KBS for a couple of years. I have finally built up my network around my area to the point where Total Wine folks and craft bars know me and such.

Finally got my KBS. Had to kit a couple Total Wine to get 3. Then found out Whole Foods released today and was able to jolt over there and score a 4PK.

Total 7 KBS when I have been hunting and coming up empty handed in the past years.

Nice!

This year I got a text and a call from a friend who said the nearby party store had it. I got the kid to drive me down there and I bought a 4-pack. Then I went home and sent the wife down to get a second 4-pack. (just in case someone I know didn't get any...) I think the were down to 4-5 4-packs at that point.

I heard they still had a couple of 4-packs 2 days later.

Mellow Mushroom in Herndon had it on tap (and bottles, IIRC). can't remember when, but I do remember them having it

middle of March they had BCBS.

they let us (Wort Hogs) know they will be doing growler fills

OR!

wait for the next releases of Lost Rhino's Dark Hours or Old Ox's Big Tasty

They were selling by the case in places around here like Whole Foods. I'll get 2 bottles and call it a day.

Nice man... you are right here in my area. I work in Herndon.

Wort Hogs meet at 730 at the Mellow Mushroom on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (next Wednesday )

You are more than welcome to join us

Just scored me another single here in charlotte. Started in Fairfax VA and ended in Charlotte NC. Should be able to grab another tomorrow morning if I am quick about it.

I ended up just trading for my KBS this year... I didn't want to scavenge around for it. So I traded two (good) beers for 5x KBS from someone who went to Founder's and picked it up at release. Happy I did, this year's release is fantastic (like it quite a bit better than last year).

I was just at total wine, not looking for Founder's BCS but just killing time on my lunch break, and I decided it would be funny to ask if they had anymore of the Founder's left. The guy looked at me and laughed and said, "People followed that truck in from the distributor, man. That stuff was all gone in about 2 minutes." We both had a good laugh.

You guys are crazy! :) I'm all for good beer but the hype some beers get is totally insane and the length some folks go to in order to get their hands on it is also crazy to me. I hope you all enjoy these beers! :mug:

I agree. I don't think I'd want to work *real* hard at getting a rare beer, but then again, check out what I did a few years ago...

I wake up on a Saturday morning and think to myself, "You have nothing going on today, it's early, and Founders is having their Canadian Breakfast Stout release in a little while."

So I got up, got dressed, and drove the hour or so to Founders. When I get there I see a line that stretches down the side of the brewery. So I park about a block away and walk back. And then I find the line stretched down the side of the brewer, diagonally across the parking lot, down to the back of the block, across the back of the block, and back down the other side to the brewer. So essentially people were in about 3/4 the way around the block.

I get in line to hang out. It's cold. There were some tents next to the side entrance where some people had camped out all night. There were rare beer bottles all along the line where people had brought their special beers to share and sample while waiting in line.

At some point an employee handed out numbered tickets to buy the CBS with. And the line starts moving. There was a guy running around with a Spongebob Squarepants blanket hung over his shoulders like a cape. I get 2 bombers of CBS.

I ask what they are doing with all of the empties on teh ground and they say they are going to have to pick them up and throw them away. So I go back and get my Jeep and start picking them up to reuse for homebrew, and the employees grab me some huge garbage bags fill the entire back of my Jeep with refillables.

By the time I got home there were at least a half-dozen bottled of CBS for sale on Ebay!

And it was a PITA to wash and de-label all of those bottles!

It was a good time. Got to chat with some interesting people. There were a lot of ladies who's only purpose was to buy more bottles of CBS for their boyfriends and husbands. I shared the CBS with friends. I'd do it again, but I'd dress warmer.

That does sound like an alright time since you had nothing going on that day. Sort of reminds me of getting concert tickets back before the days of the internet.

I've had five of them since last Wednesday. It was really good, but a little overrated at 100, I think.

My quest for KBS is an ironic one. I live in South Dakota, which is kind of a no-man's land for craft beer (and just a no-man's land, period, which is how we like it). We just don't get much for distribution, at least compared to some other places (like, say, Colorado). But we did get added to the Founder's footprint last year, which was awesome. This past week I had to go to Denver for a couple of days for work and was excited to check out some new beers that we don't get in South Dakota. Here's the irony...while I was in CO, which doesn't get Founders, KBS dropped in SD. Of course, the liquor store I frequent was long sold out by the time I got back the next day. I did manage to get it on tap at a local bar and traded a friend of mine for a bottle. And, another liquor store told me they were supposed to be getting some today, but I'm kinda skeptical on that...we shall see.

Yea I had one this past weekend watching the Paqman fight.... it was good. I probably should not have drank it after 3 others because it was not the best taste on the pallet.

I will try another this weekend which I am sure it will be great. One thing I could tell though...it was boozy.

Yep, it's pretty big, but Bourbon County from Goose Island is even stronger. I had a bottle saved from the previous year and popped it at an AHA Learn to Brew day event to share. Even more boozy!

Both were really good, but I think the edge went to KBS. All them big stouts are nice beers to sample once in a while. Not a refreshing drink, though. :D
