A friend of mine just got this keg and we don't know how to purge it. Any advice?

You have to purge the keg of the poppet
That is a pressure valve. Blows out if it gets to high

Disconnect the co2 side and push the poppet in a few times with your fingernail

I have a keg like that. Mine is a pin lock style, and I got a little plastic pressure release attachment that presses on to my gas post to relieve pressure. It was pretty cheap from KegConnection

Thanks all. Sure seems like a pain. The first beer she is putting in there is for a St Patricks Day festival and should blow out in about 3 hours. Not much chance of oxidation there.

She is more concerned with oxidizing the batch she refills it with.
