My brother gave a a 120 minute ipa from dogfish head for my 22nd birthday. That was in June, and it had been aged for a year and a half. So it's about 2 now, and will be 2 1/2 on my 23d birthday. I was going to share it with him then. (June) with a fresh 120 minute. Should I give it some more time? Has anyone aged one before? This is my first time aging a beer.

It's basically a barleywine to begin with. I've had a 2007, 2008, 2011, and 2012 recently, I'd say it gets good with age but I liked the 2011 best

Cool, so your opinion would be to drink it this June?

I'm not really a fan of stouts. Do I refuse to drink them? HELL no! But would a prefer a hop Bomb over a generally malt heavy beer? Hell yes!

Thanks though, I think I'll share it on my birthday :)

Honestly...I'd wait until 4-5 years. Actually, I prefer it around year 7 but that is a personal preference. Why not stash another away this year and you can do a nice vertical tasting down the road.

I just did a 2009-2014 bigfoot vertical. Really fun to see it change over the years all at once

About a year ago probably, I was at a friend's house who was moving across the US to San Francisco. He had found a Dogfish Head 120 minute in his basement that was from 2003. Ten years didn't treat that beer too well. It was pretty sweet, all hop character had faded a long time ago. Drink it now, waiting won't make it any better.

120 minute IPA is far from a hop bomb, even when fresh. I enjoy hops over malt most days but World Wide Stout is a top 5 beer, hands down without question better than 120 minute.

I have one going on 3 years. Will probably wait for at least 4 at this point. Would like to do a side by side but haven't had luck finding any bottles recently out here

Anyone from Vt here? I was thinking about aging a Vermonster from rock art. I just don't know if I could keep my hands off of it long enough.

Yeah if you're expecting a lot of hop punch out of 120 you're going to be seriously disappointed.

Well I've never had one. So I'm leaving open mind until I drink it. Dogfish Head calls it "the holy grail for hopheads". That's where I got that idea

Yeah, it's called marketing lol. It's basically a sticky sweet barleywine. Like I said above, along with someone else, WWS is a much superior beer

Fresh is great, 2-3 years aged is really nice. I have like 4 aging right now

You're in for a rude awakening. 120 is a sugar bomb. An aged 120 is more of a sugar bomb because all of the hops will have faded. We've done verticals of the past five years of 120's with our bottle share and it's always a diabetes fest.

If you want a hops bomb, enjoy a Green Flash pallet wrecker or a SN Hoptimum. Both are fairly cheap and easy to get. Better yet, just drink lagunitas sucks until you can't get it any more.
