Ok. So I found this growler and not sure if it safe or a good idea to put beer in it. I clean it with PBW and about to sanitize it with star san. But I noticed paint overspray inside. Is it still safe to use or is this just a mantelpiece?

Wow:rockin: That is the first one I have seen other than the one I have. It is a 500 year anniversary growler for a German brewery. Came out in 1990. It is safe to use. It is painted glass. You can still get gaskets for it. I use mine all the time and get lots of comments on it. Have even bottle carbed in it.

Yes. It's painted glass but it's so old that it's chipping. I'm getting a new gasket ASAP.

Now I'm not sure if I should even use it.

Thats an awesome growler... Use it as a growler.. ONLY! Dont use it to bottle condition... But do what youre doin... Clean it, sanitize it, fill it with beer.. Repeat!! Pröst!!

Thank you guys very much.... I'm using it as a growler!

clean it, sanitize it, fill with beer, drink beer, repeat!

There is nothing wrong with bottle conditioning in this beer bottle. After all it did come with beer in. It did not come as a growler. I have used mine many times. We reuse all kinds of different beer bottles.

When you first got it, do you remember if the beer was bottle conditioned in it? Sounds like it mightve?

Storing beer, and conditioning beer are two different beasts. Conditioning beer will have a MUCH higher pressure during the conditioning phase.
