Greetings All,

Has anyone tried growing in N. FL Zone 9? were/are you successful? Did you do anything special? Any tips /tricks for a new grower?

Looking to grow:
Centennial
Goldings
Hallertau
Magnum

Thanks!

i'm in AUS but my climate is most similar to FL. Forget Goldings, mine did not survive and struggled in the humidity, I believe the rhizome rotted away.. Cascade is working for me and producing flowers even with our super wet and cool summer. Our of your others I would probably try Magnum but not the european Hallertau. The hot/wet combo isn't friendly. If your soil has clay then grow it in a large tub so you can control the amount of water to the rhizome. I had to do the same for my rhubarb, it was dying in the ground but loves the air ciculation of an unsealed terracotta pot.

And I just noticed this is a 5yr old thread.....

I have not tried growing hops in N FL yet but I am planning to do that. I want to try growing a few varieties in Mexico Beach. I am too pre occupied in N AL this season but I would love to follow your progress. Next year I plan to make a small hop garden and plant 6 or 7 varieties to see how they do. Please post in the hop growing thread how yours performs.
