Curious about deals as well. I've done the frosting bucket thing in the past but it's a pain to do all the upfront cleaning... I do so much cleaning as it is... you know how it is.

The Menards by me has food safe buckets for $3.98 or something. That's not screamingly cheap, but it's not a deal breaker. They have regular lids (no gasket) and they also have Gamma lids. I've never had a Gamma lid before so I bought one to see if it's really as slick as it sounds. I think it will end up being just that.

There's a ring that snaps on to your existing bucket that I think I'll need to mallet hammer on, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get it back off, but the screw on lid would be so much easier to deal with than the typical pry-off lid. They're around $7 bucks, tho, so that's a bite.

Of course, they're cheaper online in bulk. Wonder how we could manage something like that... hmmm...

I brought all my grain up from the basement Wednesday night. We were evacuated Thursday afternoon. Been staying at my gf's and just came back this morning. I got lucky. The black asphalt in the bottom right hand corner is my driveway. Guess that's what I get for living in a village called Riverside.

Art, I'll stand by the value if the gamma seal lids: what a convenience, I have 22 of them and 6 gallon pails. Note: 6 gall will hold a half a 55 lb sack. There are a few places that bulk sell both, but until you hit a shidtload the shipping doesn't work out cuz your shipping alot of air..watch both Costco and Sams club..when all the prepper folks get batshidt weirded-out they run deals on them...I think I picked up a 12 pack and Lids for $148 and change. The 10 pack was $120 something.

I like my gamma lid and would go in on a group buy if the price was significantly lower. But those paint bucket opener tool are only $5. It is much cheaper to but one of them and use my existing lids than replace several lids.

They are great for dog food or something that you have to open daily.

so whats the deal with gamma lids? I seen them in HD and was asking myself that same question. I mean do they really keep a food stuff that much longer than another type of lid like the one where you have to open it one lip at a time?

Anybody have any data that gamma lids are really THAT much better than the other lids?

Convenience is about all, its a lid, you'd have to purge them with gas or constantly change the oxy-sorb packets. I brew often, so its a convenience I'm OK with paying for.. If you like old pickle pails and fighting lids.. Save the coin.

It's really hard to switch existing pails to gamma lids, but for things like group buys where you are likely buying new containers to accommodate, I think the convenience and minimal cost makes it worth the price.

Menards out in Montgomery sells gamma lids, which is nice if you only need two or three...otherwise there are some survival stores that in bulk could be a good deal.

I fully expected this buy to be huge. this is why I limited splits to two ways only except for hops. The last buy had a crap load of splits and it was just way too much. This time around the splits should be easier to handle. You guys are mad brewers!

It looks like both the bitter and sweet orange peel are wrong on the spread sheet. There should be 1lb of each. What's the best way to fix this.

I have gamma lids and I love them, but the one drawback besides cost is space. when empty they don't nest. not that mine are ever empty but if I buy enough to handle every bag from this and the previous buy, they will end up that way.

I looked at yur order from the database and you had something weird going on there with the orange, you had a quantity of 1 in one line and a quantity of -1 in the second line. I erased both (at least I think I did) so re enter them.

Well garden season is nearing quick for me and time to brew will be short while the need for a beer will be high so I'm am trying to make sure all my kegs are filled, this barrel is filled and I can buy myself some weekends for riding the MC, camping and drinking.

How do I know if my split got picked up? I noticed over the weekend there were multiple splits of the same item, seems people weren't checking what was available before entering what they wanted.

I had a split of c20 up, then another one showed up. Now there's only one again. Not trying to be nit picky just curious if there's a way to know if I'm good on it. I really don't have a need for a full sack of it.

Pilsen (CMC/GW)
2-Row (CMC/GW/Briess)
Pale Ale (CMC/GW/Briess)

Never used CMC malts before. I've loved GW malts, and Briess has been fine too. So I'm undecided. I don't brew any particular style more than others.
