Grounding Aluminum kettle

Hi All,

I've ordered all the parts to complete the build detailed in this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/how-to-build-a-5-gal-110v-ebiab-kettle.304914/

My question is, I have an aluminum kettle and have read the you will melt aluminum before it gets hot enough to silver solder. In order the attach the ground wire, can I silver solder the ground wire to the stainless shim that goes between the heating element and the kettle to properly ground the kettle?

I suggest you spend a few dollars and get a proper enclosure which will do the grounding for you. Vessel grounding isn’t something to skimp on or mess around with.

You can't silver solder aluminum. I agree with BrunDog, there are several enclosures available that would make it safer.

Put in a weldless TC fitting.

Skip all the complication.
