Hey everyone,

I'm Adam, and tonight my friends and decided that it is finally time to try our hand at brewing. For a while now we've found ourselves becoming more and more snobbish about our beer, and so this is the next logical step. I was researching starter kits when I came across this site, and I'm ecstatic that everyone here seems to love beer as much and in some cases much more than I do.

I've found a bunch of starter kits online, but I was wondering if any of you had any specific recommendations? And if anyone is from Austin, do you know of any stores here in town that have beer brewing kits?

Also, from what I've read so far it seems a lot of the beer brewing "how to's" recommend a second fermentation stage to improve the quality and clarity of the brew. Do most starter kits come with the equipment to do a second fermentation?

Anyway, I cant wait to get started. I just read another post titled "you're no longer a noob when..." and it looks like I've got a lot to learn.

Also, look up a guy by the username of EdWort. He's in your area, and rumor has it that he makes a mean batch of beer (or cider...).
I think he puts together some group brew days occasionally, too.

I went to the Austin store to pick up my beginner's kit. It's a very well laid out and clean store. Everyone there is helpful and knowledgeable. I order online now for supplies but if I had to get some bigger items again, I'd take the drive up there in person.

They could probably point you in the direction of home brew clubs too.

Welcome aboard fellow Texan.
