Hi everyone. I'm Chad. I've been an extremely passive and quiet member of this gathering of friends for awhile now. I've been brewing for almost five years and I still consider myself a beginner. I'm averaging about 5-10 batches (5-6 gal) a year right now which is fine because it's up to me to drink most of it. I've mainly done kits but I'm starting to tinker with my own recipes and I'm working on doing more all-grain brews.

I live in a fairly remote part of northern Wisconsin and haven't found a lot of like minded people to share my interests, including home brewing. The nearest homebrew club is over an hour away and the nearest supply shop is further than that so I don't have much opportunity to chat with others about my hobby. I intend to engage and interact on the forum more frequently and more vocally. It's my hope at the very least to share a common interest with interesting people and at the very most to develop a camaraderie with other members.

I look forward to being a part of this in whatever capacity. Thanks.

Welcome! I order my supplies online mostly, but once a year or so I go to Appleton/Little Chute and pick up sacks of grain from Ritebrew.

My homebrew club is also well over an hour away, so I get support and instructions from others on this site for the most part.

There are some real advantages to living in the Northwoods, but having a group of brewing friends really isn't going happen usually!

welcome! I grew up in MN, and the northwoods are home to me. This is a great place to glean knowledge wether you are in the conversation or reading it.

What styles are you typically brewing?

For my next endeavor I thought I would try a Helles; I'm going through a German brew phase right now. My go-to's tend to be sweet stouts and wheat beers. I made this maple-weiss last year that I'm fond of and with a little work, it could be pretty tasty.

As far as shopping for supplies, most of my purchases are made online but you just can't beat walking into a store, putting your hands on the wares, and sneaking into the grain room (Northern Brewer has a great one) for a big sniff.

I actually just drove through Wausau this past weekend, and Ill be doing so again in a few weeks. Beautiful up there! Welcome to the forum, you will find a treasure trove of amazing information here, happy brewing!

I don't actually live in Wausau. I live in a small town northwest of it called Phillips. It's in the middle of the woods and surrounded by lakes. Very nice area.

I can't seem to change my personal info on my profile from my phone. I'm a n00b.

I live relatively speaking just west of there. It's a very nice town. We go there often. They have a nice distillery there.

Okay you are in the Northwoods at the south end of the Chequamegon/Nicolet NFs/ Park Falls district.

Hey! That's my old stomping grounds! Born and raised in Hayward. Plan to end up back there at some point, love that part of the world.
Welcome to HBT!

Gotcha, I was actually in Minocqua for the weekend.

And you didn't call me?!?! Geez. I would have met you for a beer at least. :D

So what's everyone working on right now?

I've been on a hoppy beer kick for a few years. About every third beer is a non-IPA or pale ale, but I don't mix it up as much as I should. I feel like I should make a Scottish ale or other malt-forward beer in the near future, although I tend to drink American styles far more often.

Flars - absolutely! I have a lot to learn and I'd love to be able to work with someone.

Sorry about all the responses. App kept giving me an error telling me to repost. I'm not crazy.

Hey, I know that area, that's near Birchwood. My family went to a fishing camp there every year for most of my life.
