I seem to have hit my OG on my first grain batch, to the T, which suprised me. My second one, a Belgian Ale, called for 9 lbs of belgian pils, and an OG of 1.047 or so. I added 2 lbs of 2-row to the recipe, had a bunch of issues in the mash/boil, but still ended up with an OG of 1.06 or so. Does this sound possible? I don't know what the expected gravity should be on that recipe, but I am more than a little concerned that...

<---hydrometer, iz doin it wrong.

Also, does mashing for 90 minutes instead of 60 help, hurt, or have no efffect?

check your hydrometer in water.

mashing for 90 instead of 60 minutes (assuming the same temp) will generally result in more fermentable wort. whether that's good or bad depends on the beer and what you want

I checked in water, adjusted for temp, I guess I am okay then. I expected to have lower efficiency, but the extra time must have helped.
