I understand to back sweeten you usually make a syrup with water and sugar. And have also heard of using a juice syrup but, is it possible to make a syrup out of the wine itself to keep the flavors the same? Will boiling the wine change it or possibly spoil it? (Besides losing the alcohol) I am only sweetening 1 gallon so am thinking only about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of wine to make a syrup

Are you wanting to make a syrup using the wine rather than water and boiling that? Regardless, boiling wine will also drive off the volatile aromatics that you are wanting to preserve. It will also drive off sulfites from the sample and certainly oxidize it along the way. Not flavors you are wanting to add back into your wine.

Adding even 1/2 cup of water to a gallon only dilutes the wine by 3%, which you won't notice. So, you are better off just boiling a water&sugar syrup and adding that.

Thanks for the info. I was having trouble finding anything on doing this. It was just an idea I was considering but Ill stick with a simple water syrup.
