I was at a business conference with a colleague discovering he had an interest in home brewing. He said he had done a few extracts but quickly tired of the labor involved in brewing. Then he mentioned he may buy a Grainfather so it would take all the work and hassle of brew day. For example, he said he could add in all the ingredients and turn it on, go to work and come home to a finished beer ready for the fermenter. He likened it to putting everything in a crockpot and coming home to a cooked dinner.
First of all, I have never operated a Grainfather, but my idea of one would be that it eliminates certain steps, but cant see it removing grains, adding hops, cooling wort etc. I feel I should suggest to him he looks into the operation before thinking this machine is an answer to his do nothing except let the machine make the beer approach.
Question is, is the Grainfather basically an ebiab styled machine that helps take some of the temp and vol management guesswork out of the equation? Still needs about as much human involvement as a normal ebiab system...right?
