I'm going on a quest tomorrow morning.

I wouldn't mind trying a little. I knew someone once who liked Stout floats. I don't know if I could have a lot of it but it does sound tempting.
Dude- You think that ice cream is going to have enough IBUs for ya???:ban:

But are they gonna card you when you buy this????

on second thought...

Most Kids won't understand it... so more for US! :drunk:

There was an article in the paper where they are going to pull it because they were told they were being insensitive to use of the name since it infers the real Black & Tan group in England which is not liked.

If you want it for sovenior purposes you'd better hurry because they're pulling it from the shelves!

Uh, the ingrediants dont even list any beer. It must be stout flavored.

Why are they pulling the product?

Somebody is whining that bad people used to (about a hundred years ago) use the name "Black & Tan", so no one can ever use the term again for anything or they'll hold their breath until they turn green. So, no more Black & Tans at your local, either.

I am SO sick of whiners!

I've made beer floats before. A friend picked up some Vanilla Porter and we decided to put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a small glass and then add the porter.

It was very, very good!

I wouldn't drink like that on a regular basis, but it would make a nice desert.

Above is a link to the story about the Black and Tan complaints.

They seem to be coming from one guy who has a blog about junk food.

Nice free advertiseing for him (and B&J)

The article does not say that B&J are pulling the product.

Well, I read this thread yesterday. While I was getting groceries last night, I picked some up. B&J's varieties were on sale and they had plenty of the B&T! Haven't tried it yet. I plan to tonight. I'll let ya know what I think.

Anyone else tried it yet?

~~EDIT~~

Well, I tried it. It's okay, but nothing I'll buy again - especially for the price they charge.

It's just a 3/4" layer of coffee ice cream on top of mostly chocolate, with a little coffee mixed in. After you get through the layer of coffee, the chocolate is all you taste. If anyone thinks this is going to resemble a sweet version of a true Black & Tan, you're wrong.

It's been a few years since I bought Ben & Jerry's and I remembered their ice cream as being a lot smoother, creamier and with more butterfat mouthfeel than most ice creams. Either they've cheapened the product or the compitition is better now than it was then. But for what they charge for this stuff on sale, I could get a half gallon of Edy's or Breyers at full retail price and have a tastier ice cream.

Thanks for the update. I still haven't been able to find it--probably won't bother now.

I did get Dublin Mudslide though. :D

Didn't B & J sell out to the man?

Stout 'n chocolate ice cream? Sounds tasty.

Stout floats? Brilliant! :D

Does remind me of something, though:

"This is it, the world's first beersicle... doesn't look very good... looks like something your older brother would tell you is a popsicle... I don't want to overstate this, but it's almost as if all of human history has been building to this one moment... IT'S... NOT... BAD...

Mmmm, tasty, now if we could just put nicotine in this and wrap it in a lotto ticket, everyone in the world would want one! Don't you know what this means? Now beer can go every place a popsicle can go: the mall, the library, a church... the workplace! That's a good one!! No, Mr. Supervisor, I didn't drive my forklift off the loading dock because I was drunk. All I had for lunch was six popsicles. Oh, what's that doctor, no more beer or my liver will explode? Well, is it all right if I have a popsicle?"

3.49 is what they charge in VA but it's on sale this week at Kroger for 2 for $6. I tried it. Not too bad but it doesn't taste like beer. I probably would not buy it again.

I cracked open a pint last night, and I actually thought it was pretty good. Nothing phenomenal, but overall not bad. I actually had just drank a Weyerbacher Heresy Imperial Stout shortly beforehand, and the ice cream tasted almost exactly like the aftertaste from the Weyerbacher...it was uncanny (and I had already had a couple glasses of water after the beer, so it wasn't just a residual taste or anything like that). However, my favorite B&J's flavor will always be DMB One Sweet Whirled, even though I dont think they make it anymore.

Thanks for the review. I've yet to see it.

My favorite flavor is Phish Food, by far. The stuff is amazing.

Forgot to mention...SWMBO found me some.

Eh. It ain't all that. First off, how can they say it is cream stout ice cream when it is vanilla colored? Second, it doesn't taste like cream stout--it tastes like straight malted milk powder (pretty much just DME for ice cream shakes) that you can buy in the store.

I wasn't too impressed--I'll stick with Phish Food, thank you.

Rating: 1/5.

Ditto! Just found some and bought a carton out of curiosity. Just tastes really malty. Disappointing, really. The only B&J's I've never liked. (Well, aside from Cherry Garcia. Cherries in ice cream? Blech!)

That's what I had heard also.

Long time ago, probably almost ten years. European company, can't recall which one off the top of my head... grr... not sure they extent they really still operate as an independent entity, but I know some of the more, ahem, socialist aspects of the biz are long by the wayside.

stout ice cream and warm bread pudding...try that. soften up your favorite vanilla ice cream (i'm partial to blue bell, but thats probably the texan in me) and mix it with your favorite stout in a cuisinart and then refreeze it and serve it with some good homemade bread pudding. that is one dessert that WILL be on the menu when i open up a brewpub someday.

i don't think business and socialism can really be put together in any way. perhaps you mean to say the less profit crazy and more worker/environmentally friendly aspects of the business.

Sir, I beg to differ. Cherry Garcia was the greatest creation ever put out by B&J, but I'll need to qualify that. The ORIGINAL Cherry Garcia where the label clear stated it was made with "Bing Cherries". Now it just says cherries. Hmm.

Actually the greatest thing they ever put out was their ice cream sandwiches. What you say? You've never seen them. They aren't made anymore but they were chocolate brownies that sandwiched ice cream. Oh yeah. They were good.

I'm not a sir, but I still don't like cherries in ice cream. Cherries and marshmallows (Rocky Road? ew!) are two abominations that should never taint ice cream! ;)

Ice cream sandwiches sound good, though. :D
