It was for the 26 to 30 mens group, I am 28. I was all proud until I saw the results on the website.

I am the only person my age group...win by default. Still ran it in 44.35 so under 9 minute miles. My wife can't stop laughing...

Pretty small age class! Our local 10K has something like "under 18", "18-35", "36-50" "50-65" "65+". I think I'll wait two more years, so I can compete with old folks instead of with people in their 30s! (I'm 48).

My wife won her age group - she's 35 so there were about 8 other people in her group. I beat her by only 18 seconds. It was the Martins Mill 5 Mile Challenge in Greencastle PA in case anyone wants to look it up. There two large hills - both over half a mile and they were murder.

Any pics of your trophy?

You just gotta phrase it right. Yeah, you were the only one in your age group... because everyone else in your age group heard you were running and didn't even bother showing up! ;)

Wow that one at mile 2 looks pretty rough.

You ain't kidding. Assuming the elevation is in feet, that's a rise of about an eighth of a mile in about a sixteenth of a mile.

What kind of new age math is that? One mile is 5280 feet. The elevation gain is less than 200 feet. So that rise is more like 1/30 of a mile in more like a quarter mile. Elevation charts can be manipulated to look as impressive as you’d like.

Not trying to take away from the achievement, just that these charts are a pet peeve of mine. An example for you. Here’s the Boston Marathon by itself and then the Boston Marathon compared to Western States 100.

Where'd the hills go? :D

HAHAHAHA! I was thinking the same thing... read the post 3 times and was like "WTF is that?"

Good job on the default victory, though, OP... Barely won the mid-30's ladies division. :fro:

I didn't catch that the axis started at zero, as I was looking at it via Droid. My first response here got deleted for making a reference about how unnecessary your ridiculous response was, so I'll just leave it at that.

Congrats!

I did a 5k in 24 minutes once and I felt like a champ. I don't think my out of shape self could get close to your 5 mile. It's quite an achievement!

These runs have male, female, wheel chair, open, masters, super seniors . . .

We're being discriminated against. Where's the Zymurgy division.
:p:drunk:;)

Agree, but failing knees are screwing my calories in to calories out balance.

Have you tried running in minimalist shoes? They're hell on your calves, but force you to get more on the balls of your feet which is meant to take the shock off your knees.

Of course, I also don't know if your knee problems are impact related or otherwise, so this question could be irrelevant.

Good suggestions, but I already run in pretty minimalist shoes and am a mid to forefoot striker. Mostly just age and abuse. Already had both knees scoped. Not much cartledge left so there's not much they can do. Doc told me to stop running after I had the first knee done almost 10 years ago. Got some good years in between then and now, so have nothing to complain about. It's just that I really enjoy running. Been a big part of my life for a long time. Not ready to give up yet, but not many options left.

Lame. :(

When I was doing the MS150, I saw someone on what I can only describe as a moving elliptical machine. Maybe you need one of those. ;)
