So I brewed NB’s Multi-Grain Red yesterday. I hit all my numbers (mash temps, pre and post boil gravity, volumes etc..) based on what the recipes and my software (Brew target) told me.

So is it safe to assume that I got good starch conversion? Or do I need to post more information? Should I always do an iodine test?

I am new to AG brewing and just starting to understand the “science” behind it.
Thanks for the input

What was your efficiency? That's all that really matters. Iodine tests are unnecessary and unreliable. You can get a negative iodine test and have an incomplete conversion. With the quality of malts these days, it's pretty much impossible not to get complete conversion unless you FUBAR the mash.

Nice job nailing the numbers! The iodine test shows when the mash is complete. It would be useful if you want to see if you want to experiment with shorten the saccrification rest but if you hitting your numbers, there is really no need.

An iodine test does not tell when a mash is complete, only when it is not complete. You can have a negative reaction and your gravity will continue to rise.
