Hi there - new to the site, though I've read the forums for a while. I got a Mr. Beer kit from my wife for Christmas one year, but refills are hard to find up here. I also found after a few batches (their IPA, a Coopers Stout) that the half-size fermenting keg and lack of kit choices wasn't really going to cut it for me.

My Dad used to do some home brewing and since he's retired now and was looking to downsize stuff around the house has sent me his old fermenting keg, bottle brushes, spoon, heating belt, etc. So I headed off to a local shop and bought some other accessories (bottling bucket, antisiphon, filling wand, etc) and a Brewer's Best Smoked Porter partial-grain kit. I did the boil last night and it's currently fermenting and bubbling like mad.

I'm looking forward to trying it out and to trying more partial grain kits before I dive into a full-grain batch.

Cheers!

hello fellow Canuck!! anti siphon huh? haha obviously you mean auto just pokin fun!!!! most rewarding hobby ever!! enjoy!!!

How's it going, eh?

While you are messing around be sure to make the best beer you can by keeping the fermentation temps in a good range (65 or so including the heat the yeast are producing while they do their job).

www.amazon.ca has a good selection of them if you're still using the kit. Free shipping over 25$ and it's quick as hell! (I think it's warehouse is actually in Mississauga). Welcome aboard

Thanks for the heads up - I did find a 3-beer variety kit (cowboy lager, red ale and blonde ale) at Bass Pro shops just this spring but that was all I'd ever seen before. At any rate, I'd rather have more control over my brew than a straight up can kit.
