In a glycol chiller, is it necessary to run 1 part glycol to 2 parts water that is customary? Other than the cost of using more glycol, would it be harmful to run the glycol 1:1 to lower the freeze point? I'm sure I'll hear this is unnecessary, and I pretty much figure this. Other than unnecessary, is there any other reason not to run 1:1?

It cost more and glycol has poor thermal transfer properties compared to water. It is only used to depress the freeze point. use the minimum amount needed to achieve the temperature needed

My heat pumps run 1:1 for -37°F protection. In addition to providing freezing point depression the glycol provides corrosion inhibition by addition of corrosion resisting chemicals and by keeping the pH of the mix up above the water's saturation pH.
