As stated, will adding gelatin to the secondary halt, or have any effect on the fermentation?

NO. But you shouldn't have fermentation in your secondary. The secondary is to clear your beer, all fermentation should be done before your rack it. You don't want to take the beer off the most yeast best suited to finish the job, until it is really finished.

Ahhh I see. I did not really know that was the point of the secondary, though it seems like a "duh" to me now. For the longest time I just did 7 days primary 7 days secondary as a general rule unless the recipe specified. No longer shall I be so constricted!

Thanks Revvy!
